HARSCH - ARTIST'S STATEMENT I have been drawing (most often horses!) as long as I can remember. Early works included drawing a saddle and bridle on anything with four legs - from moose to hippo! - pictured in a set of animal encyclopedias. I eventually did progress on, getting a B.F.A. in Studio Art from Concordia College (now Concordia University) in Seward Nebraska. I have worked in human services since college, but I returned to working on art in 1993. I joined Noyes Gallery in 1995. I have a studio above the gallery. I continue to be horse-obsessed. Horses are the form I know best as I explore a variety of techniques and style in creating art. I try to capture some of their motion, grace and power in my compositions. Being able to keep learning, growing, changing and moving ahead is an important part of life for me. Horses are all about movement and are a great image to use to express a dynamic, moving feeling. I hope that each viewer's eye moves around in each piece as they look at my work. Most of my work is in acrylics and mixed media. I also enjoy creating 'wearable art' in the form of ribbon-wrapped horse and cat pins. = = = = = The music was written for a 2003 Alabama Shakespeare Festival production of "The Grapes of Wrath," directed by Aaron Cabell. "The Last Rains" opened the play and underscored the prologue. "Dusty Dawn" segued into the scene where Tom Joad meets up with Rev. Casy. "The Last Rains" was recorded using a Korg NS5R Synth Module for the dulcimer and a Korg Triton-Pro for the harmonica, guitar & bass. "Dusty Dawn" was played on a Kamen Applause AA-40 Acoustic 4-string bass guitar (short scale) with a Dean Markley soundhole pickup; roundwound strings, either phosphor-bronze or coated Elixirs; low string dropped to "D". A STEREO MP3 of "The Last Rains/Dusty Dawn" is available (along with many others) from my Harsch Sounds Online Store: http://www.MySpace.com/HarschSoundsMusic ENJOY! ~R - (Less)

Cocolestat made an excellent narration to this, find it in the responses or here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SYJIUjcnKY
Try and narrate yourself:
Once upon a time, in a faraway land,
A young Prince lived in a shining castle.
Although he had everything his heart desired,
The Prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind.
But then, one winter's night,
An old beggar woman came to the castle
And offered him a single rose In return for shelter from the bitter cold.
Repulsed by her haggard appearance,
The Prince sneered at the gift,
And turned the old woman away.
But she warned him not to be deceived by appearances,
For Beauty is found within.
And when he dismissed her again,
The old woman's ugliness melted away
To reveal a beautiful Enchantress.
The Prince tried to apologize, but it was too late,
For she had seen that there was no love in his heart.
And as punishment,
She transformed him into a hideous beast,
And placed a powerful spell on the castle,
And all who lived there.
Ashamed of his monstrous form,
The beast concealed himself inside his castle,
With a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world.
The Rose she had offered,
Was truly an enchanted rose,
Which would bloom untill his twentyfirst year.
If he could learn to love another,
And earn her love in return
By the time the last petal fell,
Then the spell would be broken.
If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast
For all time.
As the years passed,
He fell into despair, and lost all hope,
For who could ever learn to love...a Beast? (Less)
