On the way back from the store with a few jars of pickles he pulled out the paper slip. He didn't say but Jodie ripped the recite not the phone number. He held it in his palm carrying the bags up to the apparent to an eager Selena.
The note was burning in his palm; the girl was indeed pretty nothing compared Selena and the glowing presence of their child inside her. He knew that, everyone else thought that he didn't know that but he did. He missed the fun side of life; it was all responsibility and no space for him. The blonde with the short black skirt had promised him a good time, a night on the town but a good time could be perceived as a trip to her bedroom.
He sighed mentally keeping the note hidden in his free hand.
She snatched the bags, her feet hurrying to the kitchen where she took out the first car cracking it open in seconds, she pinched a pickle picking it up and taking a bite "Oh god it's like an orgasm in your mouth!" she shrilled "a mouth-gasm"
Nick settled on the stool watching her devour it quickly, "Selena calm down"
She swallowed the chewed food, hiccupping "Oh crap" She sipped on her glass of orange juice.
"Told you so" he breathed sliding the paper on the counter top.
"What's that?" she mumbled opening the folded paper.
Nick sat there watching her hold it between her fingers, reading the number. Tears brewed in her eyes as her glance landed on him, he looked back with a blank expression.
She slammed the paper down "You kept it?!"
"I want to call her but I can't. I need you and the baby but I need my own space. I need some time to myself; to party with the lads and have fun not cooped up here with you it's not healthy. You need to get out too, go around Jodie's and have a girls day or night...whatever. We're living in each other's pockets 24/7 and it's driving me crazy Sel. I'm not going to call her, you take this and rip it up, burn it, flush it down the loo just let's take this slow okay?"
She sniffled, her body shaking as she cried, "I'm sorry"
He stood up quickly grabbing her trembling hands and pulling her frame to his, "Sel don't cry, getting all worked up. Eat a pickle yeah?"
"I'm a wreck! You don't find me unattractive and annoying cause all I do is cry!" She yelled, pushing at his body roughly. She broke free from his grasp grabbing the jar of pickles and carrying them to the room on the left. She sat against the wall staring at the opposite one; the empty room was almost pitch black except the small window letting in the street lights dull glow.
After a few moments alone and her emotions calmed down she decided to head to bed. She stood up, bending down to pick up the jar. Suddenly the baby kicked making her wince, the jar dropped from her hands smashing against the floorboards.
"Nick?!" She sighed in frustration, opening the door her foot pressed against a shard. Selena cried out in pain stumbling to the floor.
Nick ran in hearing the commotion "You okay Lena?!" He kneed beside her his hands immediately fled to her bump "What happened"
"Pickles go boom!" She growled to herself, sitting up "We have another jar right?"
Nick carried her to the bathroom, keeping her quiet as he checked her over. The only pain she complained about what her foot, he removed the tiny shard, wiping it clean before helping her back into the bedroom. Whilst she got undressed while he swept the crushed pickles and the glass and moped the floor from all the sticky juices.
He crawled in beside her, laying exhausted in his bed "God I'm knackered"
"Me too" she mumbled, "We'll have to get more pickles"
"Yes we will baby" he whispered.
