Hot Rod GA5 (EVJ) Valve amp & Celestion G12… A demo of a fully hot rodded GA5 valve head (not (More) A demo of a fully hot rodded GA5 valve head (not modified by me but by a nice guy on ebay - you know the fella) Mods include: 'Power Scaling' - Lets you crank up the amp but alows the volume to stay low - keeps the neighbours happy. Hammond '125DSE' Output Transformer fitted. Bias Switch: Position '1' is 'Sharp and Bright' - This Setting makes use of 'Negative Feedback' Direct from a Coil Tap on the Hammond '125DSE' OPT - Delays Distortion and Increases Headroom. Position '2' is 'Clean and Mellow' - The Preamp Valve is Biased to match the 'Champ' Amp Sound. Position '3' is the 'High Gain' Sound -The Preamp Valve is Biased to match Modern Valve Amps - The Harder you drive it the Better it Gets. Gain Switch: Center position = Clean Up = Medium Gain Down = High Gain :-) The Drive Control. This sets How Hard the Preamp Valve is Driven. Tone = Does what it says on the tin. Master Volume Control = Sets how hard the power amp valve is driven. Standby, Triode and Pentode Switch. The Standby Switch lets the Valves warm up before powering up the actual amp. Triode or Pentode = The Output Valve in this Amp is Classified as a Pentode. This is its Normal Mode of Operation, Producing about 5 Watts of Audio Output Power. However - The Valve can be Forced to operate as a 'Triode' Producing 1.8 Watts of Output Power. Not only does it more than Half the Output Power, but it Totally Changes the Sound Characteristics of the Valve making it Warmer, Smoother and More Compressed. 'Rear Panel' Three Speaker Outputs - 4, 8 and 16 Ohms. Line Out Socket - For connection to a 'DI' Box or Recorder. The 'Line Out' is an Attenuated Speaker Signal. Input Impedance Corrected Both Valves Re-Biased and Calibrated to work within their Prescribed Design Parameters - More than 50% of the Components on the PCB have to be changed in order to Accomplish this. Enclosed Fuse Mounted on the PCB - Protects the Mains Transformer in the Event of a Fault. Much Larger/More Smoothing Capacitors on the HT and Heater Rails - 'Enhances' Bass Response and Eliminates 'Hum'. Plus other modifications (Less)
