OutRun2 (US XBox): Daytona USA 2 Stage (Hi Quality) HIGHER QUALITY SETTING RECOMMENDED
The XBox port of OutRun2 contained some surprising unlockable (More) HIGHER QUALITY SETTING RECOMMENDED
The XBox port of OutRun2 contained some surprising unlockable content. Among them are two bonus courses which will strike a familiar chord with Sega arcade racing gurus. Here is one of them, a port of the Challenge course found in Daytona USA 2: Power Edition.
Back in the day, if you were the owner of a Sega system, no doubt when they released something in the arcades, there was a strong chance you'd soon be able to own it to play at home whenever you pleased. Daytona USA 2 was among the few titles at the time that would never see a home release despite its popularity and demand, the sequel to highest grossing arcade game of all time, Daytona USA, although it was nowhere near as popular as its predecessor.
The Challenge course found in the "Power Edition" version consisted of the Advanced, Expert and Beginner tracks combined in one. The beginner track found in "Power Edition" was a NASCAR-themed racetrack - replacing the forest dome with mountains and waterfalls of the original "Battle on the Edge" course - in an attempt to make the game feel more authentic and realistic. Last I checked, it wasn't well received. "Power Edition" itself wasn't well received.
Unfortunately for fans, this is the closest thing we'll get to a home port of Daytona 2. The fact that this course is in this game probably confirms Daytona USA 2 will stay only in the arcades until we can download Model 3 emulators. If I were Sega I'd release a collection of Model 2 and Model 3 games, a "Best of" thing. Although I enjoyed the Dreamcast re-release of the original Daytona USA, I still wonder to this day why we didn't get Battle on the Edge instead.
Oh, and here's the fun thing. The Japanese version of the course differs significantly than this version. Sumo Digital was responsible for the most of the development for the US/EU home port, then SOJ took it upon themselves to make alterations to the Japanese version. For this course, it resembles the arcade more. I feel ripped. First that, adjustments to the other bonus course, Holly got a new design, and with Clarissa we got to see her with... Okay, I'd better shut up. But if you want to see the difference, check out this vid of the Japanese version of the course: watch?v=wIba1iQDaTg
Other than that, if you don't pay attention to the racing and look at the course design itself, you can really see the incredible attention to detail Sega put into the game. That was one of the reasons I fell in love with Sega's arcades. They added in so much detail to everything, and with their racing titles, you weren't just racing, you were also enjoying some amazing scenery. I admire the vision and detail they put into their work.

Now for video-related stuff.
First off, don't bother with comments saying how much I suck or messed up. I know. I forgot that OR2 is less friendly with shift-drifting than OR2SP/2006, so I had to use the brakes more than I wanted to, and I sometimes forgot which gear I was in. Demonstration purposes only, people. And no one cares if you're better. Actually just don't bother making stupid comments. I take pleasure in deleting them =D
In case you're wondering, the game didn't have the soundtrack to Daytona 2 in this course. I added the songs from the OST in editing. Don't ask for the songs or the soundtrack.
And for owners of OutRun 2006, this course was only available for the original OutRun2 for XBox.
Oh, and if anyone can figure out why I chose a red Ferrari F355 Spider, you get a cookie. (Less)
UNEARTH on CAPITAL CHAOS 2007 http://capitalchaos.net/ Unearth perform "This Glorious Nightmare" @ The Boardwalk in (More) http://capitalchaos.net/ Unearth perform "This Glorious Nightmare" @ The Boardwalk in Orangevale, CA 10/12/2007 on their recent tour with DARKEST HOUR, AUGUST BURNS RED & SUICIDE SILENCE. Early Career: 1998-2002 Unearth was formed by Trevor Phipps, Buz McGrath, Ken Susi, Mike Rudberg, and Chris Rybicki in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1998. Phipps had grown tired of the guitarist in his then current band, and local band Point 04 (containing Susi, McGrath, Rudberg, and Rybicki), had gotten tired of their singer. Initially the new band was not to include Buz McGrath, but he showed up to the jam session anyway, and the original lineup was completed. The name "Unearth" was reused from Drummer Mike Rudberg's old band. On the small independent label, Endless Fight Records, they released their first EP called Above the Fall of Man in May, 1999. Years after the release, Unearth signed to Eulogy Recordings to release The Stings of Conscience in 2001 and Endless in 2002. During the process of Endless, Chris Rybicki left the group and was replaced by John Maggard. The New Beginning: 2003-2005 After playing in venues like the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and Ozzfest with Unearth, Mike Rudberg left the group a day after their performance at The SXSW in 2003 for the reason of playing naked during that night.[2] Also Buz McGrath left for personal problems but came back shortly after. The rest of Unearth would then use Paulie Antignai of Sworn Enemy as temporary replacement drummer and Kia Eshghi of A Static Lullaby as temporary replacement guitarist (before Buz returned). With the return of Buz McGrath and new permanent replacement drummer, Mike Justian of The Red Chord, Unearth released the The Oncoming Storm under Metal Blade Records on June 29, 2004. Shortly after, they would begin touring with Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, and Lamb of God for MTV's Headbangers Ball US tour. They would also tour with Slipknot the next year. In 2005, Unearth performed in the first ever Sounds Of The Underground tour with numerous bands like Norma Jean, GWAR, and All That Remains. In the Eyes of Fire: 2006-Present In early 2006, they began writing their next album. After the writing process, they recorded III: In the Eyes of Fire with legendary heavy metal producer Terry Date at Seattle. This latest coup was yet another landmark in their blossoming career, a fact the band were quick to acknowledge: "Working with Terry Date is another amazing feat for us on a growing list of accomplishments"[3]. As they finished their latest album, they performed at Ozzfest for the second time, including songs from the album even though it was not destined for release until August 8, 2006. During the release, they began their headlined Sanctity of Brothers tour with Bleeding Through, Animosity, Through the Eyes of the Dead and Terror. After participating in Japan's Loud Park festival, Unearth and Slayer toured together all around the U.S. in early 2007 on the Christ Illusion tour. They headlined a tour in the beginning of 2007 with Job for a Cowboy, Despised Icon, and DÅÅTH. They then headlined a European tour which was followed by a U.S. & Canadian tour with Dimmu Borgir, Devildriver and Kataklysm that began in the middle of April. It was during this tour that drummer Mike Justian decided to leave the band. His departure was amicable, according to other members of the band. To fill in for the rest of the tour, Gene Hoglan of Strapping Young Lad was recruited. The band has not yet begun the search for a permanent new drummer. They played in the 2007 Download Festival along with Within Temptation and Napalm Death. As of June 7th, III: In the Eyes of Fire has sold 85,000 copies in the US. #58 - Most Linked (Today) - Music 10/10/07 #36 - Most Linked (Today) - Music 11/11/07 #25 - Most Linked (Today) - Music 11/11/07 (Less)
