Leeway "No Heroes" - DVD Release - on Project Placebo The year is 1989. The city, Tijuana Mexico. I'm inside the famed "Iguana Club", at (More) The year is 1989. The city, Tijuana Mexico. I'm inside the famed "Iguana Club", at the railing in the 2nd level balcony. I'm there to see headlining act Bad Brains perform on their "Quickness" tour. Leeway is one of three supporting bands that night. I have no idea who they are or what they're about. For me, they're just another band I have to endure in order to get to the 'Brains. From behind the curtain, five young cats from New York City stepped out on-stage and began to play the broody and tension building intro to the song,"Rise & Fall"....within seconds, the venue erupted into a sweaty-thrashy-pulsating collective. Somewhere around half way through the awe-inspiring set, the lanky & spry lead singer (Eddie Sutton) began duct-taping himself to his mic stand. As each song unfolded, he continued to wrap more and more tape around his skinny frame. By the last song.....he fell down onto the stage and began trashing around (like a fish pulled out of water and onto land) attempting to free himself from the self-imposed bondage. I was hooked! The next day I went out and lifted "Born to Expire" on cassette and I've never looked back since. In 2001, I flew from the Bay Area (Cali) to New York and met with Leeway guitarist AJ Novello and drummer Pokey at [ the now defunct ] CBGB's. AJ took a huge leap-of-faith and entrusted me with a shoebox filled with VHS tapes containing everything that existed on Leeway's career. The plan at that time was to produce a VHS release "No Heroes" - to have Leeway's history and videos showcased for their fans to enjoy. But alas....money, time, 3000 miles and tons legal issues kept this dream from becoming a reality. So, here I've cut together a MOCK-DVD trailer (yes, I'm sorry to say, this will NEVER see the light of day unless someone involved hits the lottery and puts up the d'oh ). So no, although at the end of this it indicates that the DVD is "Coming in Summer of 2017"...it is only Tongue-in-Cheek.
