A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, she earns her living as a school teacher, teaching music in schools from Boston to Philadelphia. Snowden's work has been labelled outsider music, and she was featured in Irwin Chusid's Songs in the Key of Z: The Curious Universe of Outsider Music (2000) and her song America is was included on the second volume of music produced and annotated by Chusid to accompany the book. Her music was also frequently featured on Irwin Chusid's WFMU show, though she is ambivalent about her spot alongside some of the musicians in Chusid's book[1]. The process of making and distributing such recordings is known as bootlegging. A great many such recordings are simply copied and traded among fans of the artist without financial exchange, but some bootleggers are able to sell these rarities for profit, sometimes by adding professional-quality sound engineering and packaging to the raw material. Bootlegs can consist of recordings of live performances, or material created in private or professional recording sessions. Changing technologies have had a great impact on the recording, distribution, and varying profitability of the underground industry. Bootlegging is considered infringement in many jurisdictions. The copyrights for the song and the right to authorize recordings often reside with the artist, according to several international copyright treaties. The recording, trading and sale of bootlegs continues to thrive, however, even as artists and record companies attempt to provide "authorized" alternatives to satisfy the demand. Unauthorized recordings can be traced back to the early days of opera, jazz, and blues music. The first recognised rock bootleg in the United States was a double-LP known as The Great White Wonder, for the plain white cover, sleeve and labels. This was a 1969 collection of Bob Dylan recordings and studio out-takes, as well as seven tracks from sessions made with members of The Band (released many years later in The Basement Tapes), put out by a pair known as "Ken" and "Dub". The album was in great demand since these unreleased tracks were otherwise unavailable. Hundreds of other bootleg LPs of Dylan's music, including several volumes of Little White Wonder would be released over the ensuing years. One notable release was Ten of Swords, a 10-LP box set that was issued shortly after the 5-LP Biograph was released in 1985. Unlike most major artists, whose bootlegs were usually recorded in large concert venues, the Dylan bootlegs were typically taken from unreleased songs, demo tapes, or live performances made in intimate settings or during interviews. Other early bootleg recordings that date from the same time period as The Great White Wonder include Kum Back / The World's Greatest by The Beatles, Live On Blueberry Hill by Led Zeppelin and The Greatest Group on Earth by the Rolling Stones. Creedence Clearwater Revival.Este grupo me trae a la memoria un montón de recuerdos, cuando en mis años jóvenes me colgaba de las verticales paredes de las Cordillera Cantábrica, Pirineos y Alpes. El grupo se forma en 1959 con los hermanos John y Tom Fogerty,Stuart Cook,y Doug Clifford. Su banda liceal en El Cerrito (California) se llamaba The Blue Velvets.En 1964 firmaron contrato con Fantasy Records,y en Diciembre 1967 se hicieron profesionales con el nombre de Creedence Clearwater Revival (Creencia en el Renacer del Agua Clara).Siempre fueron una banda de Rock and Roll y nunca se plegaron a las modas que imperaban en el creciente mundillo del Rock,en el ámbito musical fueron totalmente autodidactas. En esa memorable época los Hippies vivían su apogeo y se mostraban al mundo desde el Hyde Park de San Francisco (California).Pero los componentes del grupo no estaban en San Francisco ni eran Hippies. No eran psicodélicos ni revolucionarios ( si rebeldes) ni tampoco rendían culto a la LSD. Simplemente eran una banda de Rock and Roll con influencias de la música Country pero que no sucumbió ante los teclados y los instrumentos de otros grupos. En 1968 graban la versión de Hawkins/Lewis Suzie Q que causa sensación en la costa del Oeste, continuando con I Put a Spell On You con un John Fogerty que sitúa su standard vocal en un lugar muy alto. Sin duda una de las voces mas desgarradas y personales del Rock americano que tuvo el país en esos tiempos. En 1969 graban Bayou Country conteniendo el single Proud Mary que fue himno de la banda y que Ike & Tina Turner situarían en la leyenda, y el tema mas importante que inicia cualquier buen concierto de los Creedence,el absorbente Born On the Bayou. Otra obra maestra de 1969 fue Green River pero esta vez con Bad Moon Rising como single bandera, Fortunate Son y Long As I Can See The Light. En 1971 graban Pendulum y en 1972 Mardi Grass ambos Lp no bajan el nivel de ventas ni de popularidad del grupo, aunque ya en estos tiempos comienzan algunas situaciones difíciles en las relaciones personales entre John y el resto de la banda. Aparecen los celos que quizás llevaban algún tiempo conociéndose en el seno del grupo desde que el talento de John tomara las riendas de la carrera del grupo desde 1968. En 1971 Tom Fogerty deja la banda (moriría de SIDA en 1990) y el resto de la banda decide seguir como trío. En 1973 editan el Lp en directo Live In Europe, trabajo que es el testimonio final de despedida de Creedence Clearwater Revival. John continuo su carrera en solitario con puntuales e importantes éxitos conocidos problemas legales al perder este los derechos de todas sus canciones. Hoy en dia, John ha superado todas sus dificultades, y edita discos de Rock con sobrada calidad como Deja Vu grabado en 2004 recibiendo la admiración de todo el mundo. Creedence Clearwater Revival quedo consolidado en 1973 como uno de los grupos musicales de Rock mas famosos del mundo junto a The Beatles y The Rolling Stones. Actualmente en 2006 la banda sigue en activo con dos de sus antiguos componentes, y con el nuevo nombre de Creedence Clearwater Revisited y con el mismo estilo musical. En su dilatada discografia,ademas de los temas citados anteriormente, pueden destacarse : Who'll Stop The Rain-Cotton Fields-Feelin' Blue-The Midnight Special-Bootleg Penthouse Pauper-Tomstone Shadow-Sinister Purpose-99 and a Half Ramble Tamble-Before You Accuse Me-Lodi-Have You Ever Seen The Rain.
