If you have any additional footage please send it to me.
This is NO glorification of the North Korean dictatorship.
Shown are:
HY-2 Seersucker: This is a Chinese development of the Soviet P-15 Termit. While it actually is an anti-ship missile, Operation Iraqi Freedom has demonstrated it can be used as a cruise missile with some success. North Korea has also developed a version with jet engines to increase its range. Iran has a similar weapon called Al Ra'ad. Considering the close military operation of both countries, they might be identical.
FROG-7: This is an old, long obsolete rocket with small range and unsatisfactory accuracy. Nevertheless when used in large quantities against „soft targets like cities it can still be lethal weapon.
Taepodong 1/Paekdusan: The rocket shown is a space launch vehicle derived from the Taepodong 1 MRBM. It consist of a Nodong as first stage and a Hwasong 5 as second stage (after some analysis I came to the conclusion it is a Hwasong 5 and not a Hwasong 6 as often claimed). The third, spin-stabilized stage was powered either by an SA-2 or by an SA-5 engine. Launched from Musudan Ri the attempt to put North Korea's Kwangmyonsong satellite into orbit failed, although North Korea claimed the opposite. Apparently the missile was not put into front-line service, neither in silos nor on mobile TELs. The North Koreans have clearly reached the limits of the Scud design. The Taepodong 2 was an equally devastating failure. The reworked Taepodong 2B is allegedly not based on the Scud anymore but on the SS-N-6 (other sources claim it's based on a Chinese design).
extended range Scud: This missile was shown during the 2007 parade. It seems to be a cheap attempt to build a long-range Scud. Allegedly it is powered by an SA-2 engine, which has much lower thrust than the Scud motor but can be throttled, thus allowing a more fuel efficient flight. The missile remains elusive, the North Korean TV carefully avoided showing too much details or the rear part with the engine. The most notable difference visible is its slightly elevated position on the MAZ-543 TEL
KN-02, this is probably the most modern missile in North Korean service. Since quite some time there has been a vibrant military cooperation between Syria and North Korea, with the latter one exporting its missiles and -allegedly- its nuclear capabilities. Syria, in exchange for North Korean missiles, sent several SS-21 „Scarab to North Korea for reverse engineering. The North Koreans developed the KN-02 from it and increased the range of the original design. While it remains a n SRBM its accuracy could turn it into an important asset. (Less)
