I would like to thank my musicians: Nathaniel Mich (violin) Adrian DiMatteo (electric (More) Thank You:
I would like to thank my musicians: Nathaniel Mich (violin) Adrian DiMatteo (electric guitar) and Casey Martin (acoustic guitar) for putting their time and effort into this project and letting their instruments respond emotionally to the music and words. I would also like to thank my mother for driving over an hour in the pouring rain on a Sunday night when technical difficulties arose and everyone else who supported me and encouraged me through this challenging and trying process. Thank you to the ASF for coming up with such a great contest and to all the other artists who submitted moving and inspirational work. Thank you also to my video extras: my lover Amanda Nicole Hirsch, Alex 'Shark', Aaron 'Terks', Will Hanna, Krissy Roth, Kelly Harrison, Dara Rubnitz, Ali Hunt, Mel Dershowitz and to Shark and Bryan Davis for filming.
Lyrics:
We are
The most apathetic
Or so the record states
I have to edit-it...
I have to set it straight
I drive over this city's streets
But beneath
The blacktop and concrete
Lies my final destination
Unless I can rise to the occasion
But "most men
Lead lives
Of quiet desperation"
But I won't call resignation
Won't confirm desperation
Whilst my eyes were shut tight
A vision came to me
Instead of
Signing on AIM to see
Which friend can entertain me
By chatting away aimlessly
I'll use what I say
In order to change the way that they see
The cynicism I perceive
In the dreams abandoned
Is
A disease so tragic
And yet the only remedy
That we need to combat it
Is our belief in magic
Like Jack's beans...
The seeds - of truth scattered
Remain strong, through brainstorms
Grew past the clouds when they formed
The years
Blew past
And I've grown
Too fast to even enjoy
Getting scraped scuffed and scrapped, bruising my back
Till I'm blue and black on back streets with my boys
Or
Trading gossip with girls about people we know
I'm searching for a life with greater depth
(Breathe) I can hold my breath
As long as Kino to fill my pockets with pearls
The soul is blessed...
From above the hope and faith with in
The ocean takes me in
Far from the surface
Keep floating, keep hoping
Searching for purpose
I open my eyes and take it in
Longing to surface
This is my Awakenin'
But I have the strokes
That it takes
To be able to swim
This journey is what I go through
In every minute of
Loving and living and learning
And upon returning
Like a pearl diver
I have something precious to show you
I don't know you - you don't know me
But for caring about you - you owe it to me
To at least care a little more
...About yourself
And start living your life
Like it is not moving slowly
"Gather ye roes buds while ye may"
These days it seems the field is absolutely flowerless
If "absolutely power corrupts absolutely"
Then I'm fine being absolutely powerless
As long as I can be a part of the power of the people
I believe the powers that be will
Vest their powers in me during our hour of need
Strength in numbers
That we must muster in unity
To become
One young community
As we grow - into the people - who we are soon to be
Take a second to reflect
As we grow -- into the people -- we are soon to be
Come - reflect on - rights that were given to you and me
Hippies in the 60s had to fight to gain its quite a shame
We dishonor their spirit by inciting pain
When we use words that defame
To place blame on each other
Instead of calling each other
By their rightful name
We must re-ignite the flame, despite the rain
If you change the way you think you'd be amazed how your life can change
If you change the way you speak you can change the world
That you live in
If we act now we can still save it, start rebuildin'
Make it a better place for the next generation
Of children
Because presently it's a long way from where our parents intended it to be
In order for our voice to be heard we must start taking our words seriously
If you are a revolutionary who fights furiously
Then you are a mirror image of me
But with clearer vision you'll see
The lack of depth the reflection represents
Open your heart and you will soar like a bird with no ceiling above
Because "a true revolutionary is guided by great feelings of love"
Quotes:
"At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love" - Ernesto Che Guevara
"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation" - Henry David Thoreau
"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old time is still a-flying :
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying." -- Robert Herrick, To the Virgins to Make Much of Time
"Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely" - Lord Acton (Less)
