Collectively, The Rape of Nanking, the Comfort Women issue, and Unit 731 are all taboo subjects in Japan, as the Japanese government even to this day has not moved their stance on the matter. What stance is that you ask? The government's outright denial of any existence of these so-called atrocities. Many whom are unfamiliar with the issues of Japanese war atrocities question if these incidents were as serious as historic accounts claim they were, or worse, question if they existed at all. This is because immediately after the war, Japan became an ally to the west. This led to the reason why the facts about Rape of Nanking were not made popular like the Holocaust. China was viewed as the communist enemy, and the U.S. bought research data from Unit 731 and let many war criminals go unpunished. In contrast, the U.S. refused documents from Nazi experiments on the Jewish, but accepted the ones done on the Chinese because they saw the Chinese as nothing but dogs. Furthermore, skeptics, particularly the ones convinced by the Japanese government who claim these atrocities were mere fabrications from the Chinese communist government, should not forget that these facts come from ample international proof gathered by witnesses, historians, and journalists. Even so, Japan seems to have too much self pride, to even fathom an honest apology.
