There are four sections.
[1] A speeded up preview.
[2] A slower view from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. on a winter's morning, including the dawn and the reflections of rising sun from the windows on one side of the street onto the other side of the street.
[3 & 4] The night sequence is repeated two more times. Firstly with computer generated stars superimposed and updated every fifteen minutes; then with computer generated stars, constellation lines and names superimposed and updated every fifteen minutes.
The computer generated components were taken from Sky and Telescope's online S&T Interactive Sky Chart at skyandtelescope.com/
The location was Brighton, East Sussex, UK (50° 50' N 0° 09' W) looking approximately north east in early February 2009.
Although there is some cloud, most of the orange light in the sky is small town light pollution.
A Canon DSLR was used, with the sensor sensitivity turned up to 1600 ASA / ISO. The camera was controlled using Canon's owns bundled software via a USB cable from a laptop. Initially (during the darkest times of the night) each automatic exposure was about 10 seconds. This duration - together with the extra time taken to download each picture via a USBv1 port - limited the exposure rate to two pictures per minute. (Less)
