[PSP] Portable VNC Demo This is a video I showed at DefCon15 [Thinking Outside of the Console Box] to demonstrate how a Sony (More) This is a video I showed at DefCon15 [Thinking Outside of the Console Box] to demonstrate how a Sony PSP handheld game console might be used to enter and control a regular computer.
The software used on Vista was TightVNC v1.2.9:

The newest version "works," but not as well as the older version does. The PSP software used was ZX-81's Portable VNC v1.2.6:

What I spoke about while this demo was shown:
- With a mini-USB/USB cable, someone can connect a PSP to a computer and have it automatically (unless the local system policy restricts this) recognized as a read/writable device.
- Pre-loaded programs can be copied to the connected computer, and then run (again, unless local system or user policy restricts this) and installed on the victim computer.
- Once TightVNC is installed, an infiltrator may then decide to make (Windows) registry mods to hide the VNC icon (shown on the bottom right of Windows desktops).
- While the VNC service is active, the victim may be accessed via a PSP (or, more slowly, via a Nintendo DS running PointyRemote) running Portable VNC. Passwords are supported. I used a Targus infrared keyboard to speed my typing, but you can use combinations of buttons to type on a "naked" PSP.
- Depending on the VNC service, you can work around slightly more savvy sysadmins by moving to a port that is not closed at the router...
For those who are interested in learning more, I hope to have a Shockwave version of the entire presentation, with a voice track, available sometime in late August 2007.
