My SSP Rap
A funky rap groove written about my experience at the Sierra Service Project in Los Angelos during (More) A funky rap groove written about my experience at the Sierra Service Project in Los Angelos during July 2006. Yeah I kinda blew it at the ending. Oh yeah, it's supposed to be the chords from "The General" by Dispatch because site director Nate likes to play it. ----- It's kinda hard to describe - to put into words But if I don't make noise then I can't be heard If only everything was like SSP We could love each other unconditionally I was touched in many ways during that one week But a few things stick out in my mind... In the city I thought of all the things I possess It's not fair that they're homeless while I'm so blessed To have a safe place to live, a roof over my head Running water, a family, a pillow and a bed But in those LA streets, I was given hope Because all of those people I saw had plenty of hope Their lives are tough but they can still jive They're just so happy to be alive Because life is so precious, no matter who you are And I'm thankful for making it this far I know that my life is worthwhile I learned it when I handed out a sandwich and a smile Before I continue I just have to say A few special people really made my day David, Diane, Sergio, Terry - talk about an inspiration And I pray that they can know or somehow feel What they did in my heart, man, these feelings are for real Showed me far a little love can go And I'll never forget what they showed me, so If you like the way that I rhyme You shoulda seen David recite Pink Floyd's "Time" You know what really amazes me? It's the community that we had at SSP Where else can you go where people just love each other And don't care about status or past or color I learned a lot by just being in LA But us all coming together hit me in the biggest way And Group Fwo, my AWESOME work team We can do anything as long as we dream And while I have the time to dedicate a verse Let me say "Oh hey!" to my friends in Oakhurst And of course, of course, before I go on I didn't forget about ya'll in Tucson You made me feel welcome from the very start And I love you so much from the bottom of my heart One word stuck out in my mind that week It was S.I.M.P.L.E. If I just simply love everyone in sight By golly, I think I'll be alright Cuz what I came to realize with some help from above Was that 2d - All you need is love (Less)
