Ringo Starr, geboren als Richard Starkey, (Liverpool, 7 juli 1940) is vooral bekend als de drummer (More) Ringo Starr, geboren als Richard Starkey, (Liverpool, 7 juli 1940) is vooral bekend als de drummer van de legendarische band The Beatles. Starr ontmoette de andere Beatles (die toen nog Pete Best als drummer hadden) in Hamburg. Hijzelf was toen nog de drummer van de band Rory Storm and The Hurricanes. Op 18 augustus 1962 speelde hij voor het eerst als officieel lid van The Beatles. Op 11 februari 1965 trouwde Ringo met zijn vriendin Maureen Cox. Op 13 september 1965 werd hun zoon Zak geboren. Op 19 augustus 1967 volgde Jason en op 11 november 1970 werd Lee geboren. Ringo en Maureen gingen officieel uit elkaar in 1975. Al voordat The Beatles uit elkaar gingen had Ringo twee soloalbums gemaakt: Sentimental Journey en Beaucoups of Blues. In die periode speelde hij ook mee op een plaat van George Harrison en een van John Lennon en Yoko Ono. Ook speelde hij in twee films: Candy en The Magic Christian. In de jaren die volgden bracht Ringo een aantal soloalbums en singles uit (zijn grootste hits waren It Don't Come Easy, Photograph en You're Sixteen) en speelde hij nog regelmatig met de andere drie ex-Beatles (maar nooit met zijn vieren). In 1980 ontmoette Ringo tijdens de opnamen van de film Caveman ex-Bond-girl Barbara Bach. Een zwaar auto-ongeluk (waar Ringo en Barbara levend uit kwamen) en de dood van John Lennon maakten het een zwaar jaar. In 1981 trouwden Ringo en Barbara. In de zomer van 1992 ging Ringo op tournee met zijn All Starr Band, waarin zijn zoon Zak de tweede drummer was. 1994 was een zwaar jaar voor Ringo. In dat jaar overleden zijn goede vriend Harry Nilsson, zijn stiefvader Harry Graves en zijn ex-vrouw Maureen, waarmee hij nog goed contact had (hij was bij haar toen ze stierf). In 1995 besloten de overgebleven drie Beatles samen met John Lennon's weduwe Yoko Ono dat de tijd rijp was om twee nieuwe Beatles-singles uit te brengen. Free As A Bird en Real Love (oude nummers van John Lennon) werden met moderne technieken in een nieuw jasje gestoken en de Beatles beheersten opnieuw wereldwijd de hitlijsten. Ringo en Barbara zijn in Monte Carlo gaan wonen en in elk geval tot en met het jaar 2000 bleef Ringo door de Verenigde Staten touren met zijn band. (Less)
