The Final STAGEO Challenge: No Warps/Power-Ups/Stars/1Ups [EDIT: I do have a few new things to note, for anyone who thought I was takin this too slow. Check (More) [EDIT: I do have a few new things to note, for anyone who thought I was takin this too slow. Check the bottom of this descriptor to see - you'll also see it among the comments, long as it doesn't get buried, anyway.] That's right. I'm back for one last run against SMB1, STAGEO Style. Watch as I attempt to survive this madness for yet a third time - with even MORE restrictions! No Warps No Mushrooms No Fire Flowers No Stars No 1Ups I didn't even go up to any coin heavens, or into any unnecessary pipes! Part 1 of 3. Notes... 1-2: The first few times I was at the point where one would normally head atop the ceiling to dash through the stage, I already died several times to those Goombas that come barrellin through the part only Small Mario fits into without ducking. After repeated deaths, I tried to lure them out, to no avail. And I'd already save stated after attempting to scroll the screen a lot, so, by the time I knew I couldn't draw them out without losing my safe position, it was too late to go back and not waste so much time trying to slightly scroll the screen. As for the second time, below where the 1Up is, I'd dashed through several times prior to that, and been jumped by 1 to 2 Pirahna Plants as well as the 3 Goombas - making the jump through impossible. So I had to lure the first Pirahna Plant out, in order to successfully avoid getting 4x or even 5x hammered. The logic being, draw one out ahead of the others, run under the Pirahna Plant, jump over the Goombas, land on the pipe, and jump the second Pirahna Plant and 4th Goomba before they could hammer me. 1-3: When I didn't just rush off after getting the Koopa above me where I couldn't be harmed, I was trying to lure the Goomba out so I could safely cross without having to worry about unplanned hammer trajectories. And then, yes, immediately after that, another damn Goomba. x.x; I just wanted to play it safe, because loading state so much had already started to get on my nerves, especially since there's almost nothing you can do to dispatch enemies in this challenge. Okay, so I hesitated after the flying platform - but I wasn't expecting to deal with a Goomba NOT chucking hammers, then falling. I was afraid to be premature with my jump under an assumption that he'd stay with a no-hammers routine before falling down. 2-1: After the first Goomba, I held back on the platform above the two Koopas in an attempt to lure a Pirahna Plant and two Goombas on screen while my "safe zone" was still in reach. Then, I screwed up my attempt to dashjump, to clear the Koopa and still make the lower platform of ? boxes, to avoid the lower Goombas, so I compensated by running back quickly, THEN going for the jump, somehow avoiding the hammer from the first Goomba. Again, after the place where the vine is, I hesitated on the high platform, to completely draw out the Goomba and Pirahna Plant, to be able to safely jump past them. Another Goomba/Plant combo followed, same drill, except I wasn't in nearly as safe a spot...heh. After that, I ran like the wind, since somehow that managed to luck-out in getting me through, that time. Then the Koopa came, and I waited just so he'd have no chance of annoying me. And I know I seemed to hesitate agian, but I believe that's because I couldn't remember what was ahead, and didn't want to have to abuse my save states so damn much...heh. 2-2: No comment, aside from this: @_@; The ocean is too damn annoying to play agressively, since the swimming physics clash with my usual hammer-avoiding instincts. So...yeah. 2-3: I just wanted those coins, and to not trust Mario's brakes on jumps, which seemed at the time to be kinda more slippery than usual. 2-4: I admit it. I never shoulda took the top route - but I didn't want to use Save States for a "perfect" run, just to avoid those numerous deaths. 3-1: Those bi-level Koopas had me worried, especially with the distance between them. And the Plant following. Ugh. But at least, oncE I passed those two, I just ran under the Plant and jumped past the other two baddies. The next part was hell, if I recall correctly. Took me several tries to make a jump able to clear all three Goombas AND the damn Pirahna Plant. Augh. Ah, the bridge from hell...took me even more load states to pass, because I tried to take it slow at first. Then I managed to just make some nicely timed dashjumps to eventually clear them AND get to the platform the star is in. Which saved me from the enemies down below. Phew! That seriously saved my ass. No kidding. And I admit, I could have just said "screw it" and took my chances with the Pirahna Plant following, but after such a plan backfiring in my face often, I'd gotten tired of it. Sorry if these "hesitation" moments brought down the video as a whole... Especially as the damn plant never even showed up! I was pissed. u.u; As for the Hammer Bros., as always, a pain. Since they don't walk towards Mario, when on the left. Ironically enough, that very last hammer you see killed me...ha...thank God I was using Save States, or I'd have been upset. After the staircase, I really was dropped into hell...heh. Several Koopas in a row. The timing on all that jumping was pretty wicked fast, considering I had to dash all the way through. More luring, before that last staircase. REason being, those Koopas screwed me over more than once, when I attempted to rush from that last "safe point" before the straicase. Upsetting. But at least thye flipped over for me, to render themselves (even if not their hammers) harmless... 3-2: Welcome to Hell's Gates. Holy shit. That many enemies in a row on flat ground...eesh. With like, almost no platforms to jump to for any amount of safety, things got pretty dodgy. I had basically NO safe points. I was forced to run pretty much the entire dman stage, loading state everytime a jump got hammer'd. Agwah. I'm just...VERY glad that the one and only Pirahna Plant in this stage was a no-show...oh, and I think that very last stretch, the Koopa, Goomba, Goomba-Goomba-Goomba, might have given me the most trouble in that stage. 3-3: That first Goomba was pretty evil. Stayed unpredictable on me - sometimes falling, sometimes staying up there. Was a bit of a chore to get past in one piece. I hesitate on that Flyin Koopa beyond the three floating platforms, as I was expecting a little "hammer time". No dice. What a drag... So I payed him back with a little stompage. XD Heh. But those next two Koopas scared the hell outta me...then didn't throw any hammers either. Bastards. 3-4: And finally, the castle. I hesitated on Bowser, because (as I recall) he managed to kill me a few times by just trying to rush in and jump immediately. There...explanations: given. I hope that justifies this run's "slowness" a bit, kupo... (Less)
