This song is the lead off 'opening track" on the 16 Song 'The Rock Opera - White Suburban Liar$' which ofcourse is an expansion upon 1991's 'Going Legit' cd. "Shes a bitch and then you live" exclaims the classic chorus break of this well known South Bay (Redondo Beach / Torrance California) rock anthem of Los Angeles. Clark hagins ofcourse would get into tangles with magazines like Ben is dead and Bam Magazine as his desires to 'speak out' against liberal (and sometimes rightwing too) political ideas often got him in hot water as he rubbed practically everybody - and especially his own family in particular - the wrong way ,..as 'the' independent thinker !! At only 5 foot 5' tall, it WAS virtually impossible for hagins to ever get any respect or back up ,..but his music 'always' did the talking - with nothing but hit songs; WHITE BLACK THANG, STAR, BEN IS DEAD, IT AIN'T EASY, 22nd Street, People that won't back down, Search and Destroy, Dead End street, Manipulation, Addicted, America the beautiful,..and nevermind all the tunes in the great collection of pre-1991 that Hagins recorded alongside guitar master Phil Keegan (Dr. Phil) in the 'first' incarnation of Greenhouse Effect from 1985 til 1990 ! Keyboardest and Sound producer Bill Krodel often played the synthesizer parts on G.e. songs and spoke highly of Hagins as one of the best people he ever recorded! "Misogynistia" and it's millions of views at Google is a stunner and has helped make G.e. into an internet household word as this weird accoustic driven ambient song moves along hillariously displaying the pratfalls of good ol' 666 - THIS ONE IS A KEEPER ! NOTE; WOVEN IN HERE - is live footage of the song 'Ben is dead' at the important August 16, 1991 gig at the hermosa Saloon where the swami Haggins seems to be showing the crowd what the future of 1990's alternative rock n roll will look like ! HAGINS would play and carefully overdub practically ALL the instruments on the mighty Greenhouse Effect collection of songs ! And he was a 'leader' in the South Bay music scene,..often booking whole entire concerts of multiple bands - ALL BY HIMSELF - PUTTING out all the flyers and word on the street himself as if a one man "Blues Brothers' on a mission from God...while too, paying all the city Sound permit fees... ! With virtually no help from no one, no managers, few lawyers, no publicist, no agent, no nothin' hardly, Haggins damn near got Greenhouse Effect signed to a major label - BEFORE THE ALTERNATIVE ROCK BOOM !! - grabbing the attention of many A & R Personel with his great songs,... Ge were never signed and a tired haggins gave up after some 7 years of trying in November 1992, BUT TODAY - ALL OVER THE INTERNET - GREENHOUSE EFFECT,..and all of their songs including the mega-hit "Brandy" LIVE AGAIN !!! IN 2009 !! ------------------------------------------------- The Clark Hagins 'Concept' Story for "Going Legit" was the tale of a man who was born with a disease that paralyzed one half of his body in his youth years,...who grows to be ridiculed, 'ignored', and ostricized as he invents many of society's great ideas in anonymity,...while others, higher up in power, coyly steal his ideas - in 1990, he travels to iraq and fights in the first gulf war,...only to come home to be homeless, alcoholic, and in the streets of San Pedro - watching passers-by living normal lives ,..or the 'good life',...he writes songs and poetry in the streets and he crafts an idea called "God's Joke' which is a bluesy piece of poetry,....the 'reality' idea for "Going Legit' is almost an 'album' of real music within a 'fictitious' screenplay,....Whilst in iraq "Maury Wilson", becomes racist and hateful towards virtually all others he feels inferior to him as he wirnesses countless 'human crimes' in his estimation,....he is also exposed to punk rock, opium, and he grows insane, hating virtually all around him ,..before he is discharged,...he comes back home to the United States - and finds he has no money, very little help from the military,..and he ends up homeless and alone in the Los Angeles Seaport Streets,...he crafts an idea about 22nd Street where he often resides,...and he dreams of being younger again and playing music,...the punk rock he learned in the military enables him to write the idea for "Star, You've let me down",...etc; "I fought overseas when I was a young man" he proclaims in one of his poems,... I have lived the life of a rebel, street child and fool.
But only fools know love!
I ran away from home as a young boy stepping into the unknown without fear, breaking rules because I have none myself. When I lost everything and everyone I became a lonely, negative, criminal ego animal. Nothing good went into my brain. I went really insane.I have learned from my own experiences that if you leave a child to its own devices and without attention, it will turn into an ego animal. I have trodden a path through life somewhere between reality and
imagination,fact and fable, tragedy and nonsense.
I began life in the middle of nowhere, in a remote village in
Azerbaijan of Iran.I was a rebellious child from birth. Born to a mother who was a mystical singer, I was from an early age fascinated and transfixed by music and poetry,and even worked for a year in a cow pasture just to buy my first radio. I left my father and mother and homeland in search of adventure,freedom and rock and roll.
In the company of two friends I left my orignal country, and, having illegally crossed the borders of all the wartorn countries on the way, arrived in Pakistan,after which my two friends returned to Iran and I yourneyed on to Holland. On getting my Dutch Passport I made
my base in London, where I spent my time honing my musical skills and became a regular at the legendary Soho recording studio, Tin Pan Alley.It was in Tin Pan Alley thatI meet some of the influential players in my first band, Naked as Friends. They were bass player Steve Lawrance, drummer Chris Bells, guitar players Stevie klasson, David Salonia and Jim Banner, producer/mixer Tony Plat, who had prevously worked on Iron Maiden's "Phanton of the Opera", Bob Marley and The Wailers' "Catch The fire.Burning", AC/DC's "High Way To Hell" and "Back In Black" and Motorhead's "Another Perfect Day", producer/mixer Ken Thomas, who had produced some of Bjork's albums, and producer and mixer Steve Kent, who produced for many London bands.
Naked as Friends was well received in Europe and I did a successful tour with the band as lead singer/songwriter. Also, in 2002 I released the hit single "Gypsy Child" on Royalty records, Pop UK, but due to disagreements about the contract, we parted without further collaboration .
For some Reason I left London in 2002. I have also heard that in the UK People think I'm dead.
After a couple of years, I found myself in a new place, wanting to transcend the anger and darkness and focus on harmony and love.
Considering my early premonitions, it is no wonder I would start up in the official land of the golden peeps Norway, where I decided to give up my old criminal ways and live an honest life, like I'm doing now. Selling Norway's number one Anarchist paper, "Gateavisa", on the streets of Oslo,I have used the income to transform my music to new heights.
The new sound lifts the ceiling with light and joy, while the lyrics reflect the wisdom of my remarkable life journey.
My new band features the renowned guitar work of Stevie Klasson of Hanoi Rocks, who has also played with Johnny Thunders.Stevie Klasson is one of the world's top performers, his self-confident poses eloquently matching his guitar skills. Also, the band features the drums of James Bradley jr., who has recorded with the Beastie Boys and Crazytown and Slash. Finally, Stefan Björk of the Diamond Dogs is on bass. So far, Jason Paradisa have performed three acclaimed gigs in Oslo, and thousands of fans from sixteen to sixty are going wild!
Jason Paradisa'first album, Mystical Premonitions, has recently been recorded in Stockholm at the Decibel Studio, and while it is not yet officially released, it has already sold more than 4,000 copies in Oslo alone,and has been featured on the national radio channel,"Kanal 24" as well as "RadiOrakel". The producer is Dag Lundquist, who has previously worked with CC Cowboys, Ulf Lundell and Weeping Willows. I'm currently gearing up for a Tour in 2007.Our new album will be released on Zobb music, and I am looking forward to combining the inward journey with the outward one. (Less)
