Now ladies and gentlemen, the man you've all been waiting to hear...
Set to a propulsive disco-shuffle so addictive Pete Doherty would free-base it, "Can't Stop Moving" is a euphoric cut-up that's probably on your radio right now.
But there's more to Sonny J than 'Summer Nights' rave-ups and irresistible, prozac pop. He wants to free your mind, too. Listen a little closer to "Can't Stop Moving" and you'll discover samples of lysergic gonzo-astrology ("You have a tendency to drift") and snippets of '70's TV arcana ranging from The Rockford Files to The Brady Bunch - we're guessing here - which will leave even The Avalanches scratching their heads.
On top of this, you'll find "Disastro", the debut album. Recorded in Sonny's tumbledown Beach Hut studio, "Disastro" is a record of dazzling dexterity, featuring rapping French schoolchildren, old seaside cabaret stars, hypnotists and local drunks, all washed down with healthy doses of inspiration from bizarre, dusty records that have been unearthed by a man with a heart and a home for forgotten souls.
"Disastro" is the soundtrack to heaving dancefloors, moonlit parties and sweaty rock 'n' roll clubs. It's the perfect album to the end of the summer, the blissed-out climax that you don't want to end. Look for it this autumn.
So who is this masked mixologist? No clues as yet. Other than to say, Sonny J and his band are planning live shows for later this year which will delight anyone who thought Sly Stone at Loveboxxx should have gone on for a week. Until then, there's "Can't Stop Moving". Crank it up.

The first live show has been announced. By the time 24th October comes around, anticipation will be at fever-pitch, and anyone with a ticket to Cargo will be a very, very lucky punter. Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, he was named for his father Oscar Brown, Sr., who was a successful attorney and real estate broker. His singing debut was on the radio show Secret City at age fifteen. Brown attended Englewood High School in Chicago, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Lincoln University (Pennsylvania) but did not obtain a degree. He served a stint in the U.S. Army, officially segregated until 1948, where his views on "race relations" were considered "subversive.". In his youth, he was even a member of the Communist Party, USA, which ultimately also decided Oscar was "too subversive"; he was suspected to be a Black Nationalist.
He founded The Oscar Brown, Jr. H.I.P. Legacy Foundation to carry on his work. But his first attempt at mounting a major musical stage show in New York City was "Kicks & Co.," c. 1960. Host Dave Garroway turned over an entire broadcast of the "Today" show to Brown to perform numbers from the show and try to raise the necessary funds to launch it on the stage. As with virtually all of Brown's theatrical endeavors, the public was not won over sufficiently to allow financial breakeven despite acclaim by some critics. (His longest-running relative success, thanks to participation by Muhammad Ali, was "Big-Time Buck White.") "Kicks & Co." is set on an all-African-American college campus in the south, during the early days of attempted desegregation. The character Mr. Kicks is an emissary of Satan sent to try to derail these efforts, in which the play's protagonist, Ernest Black, has become involved. Another notable musical show, "Joy," saw two incarnations--1966 and 1969--and again addressed social issues of the time. Appearing with Oscar were his wife, Jean Pace, and the Brazilian singer/accordionist Sivuca. RCA released the original cast recording around 1970 (long out of print).

Matthew Herbert (1972 - ); also known by the anonyms Herbert, Doctor Rockit, Radio Boy, Mr. Vertigo, Transformer, and Wishmountain; is an influential and critically acclaimed British electronic musician.
In the mid 90s he traveled to San Francisco, where he met jazz singer Dani Siciliano. The two became collaborators and romantic partners, and eventually married. In 1998, Herbert issued Around the House, which successfully mixed dance beats, sounds generated by everyday kitchen objects, and Siciliano's wry vocals. By the late Nineties, Herbert was remixing tracks for dance artists like Moloko, Motorbass, Alter Ego, and others. (Many of these were later collected on Secondhand Sounds: Herbert Remixes.) He also recorded singles, EPs, and albums under a variety of aliases (Doctor Rockit, Radio Boy, Mr. Vertigo, and Transformer) as well as his own name.
On May 30 2006, Herbert issued Scale, his most successful album to date. In the U.S., it reached number 20 on Billboard's electronic music album chart.
Matthew Herbert has produced remixes for numerous artists, including Moloko, R.E.M., Perry Farrell, Serge Gainsbourg, Yoko Ono, John Cale, The Avalanches and Cornelius. He programmed three tracks on Björk's Vespertine, and produced Moloko singer Róisín Murphy's album Ruby Blue.
He has contributed music to several films, including Human Traffic and Dogme 95 director Kristian Levring's The Intended, Agathe Clery, Le Defi, as well as UK television, theatrical and concert dance productions.
Oscar Brown, Jr (October 10, 1926 -- May 29, 2005) was a singer, songwriter, playwright, poet, and civil rights activist. He ran for office in the Illinois state legislature and U.S. Congress, both unsuccessfully.
