The Monitors - Going To A Go-Go Exciting news for everyone who's been asking where they can buy some of these videos in sharp (More) Exciting news for everyone who's been asking where they can buy some of these videos in sharp DVD quality. Coming in November on DVD. "DON'T FORGET THE MOTORCITY". A three disc collection of 100 videos of the former classic artists of Motown. The Detroit Sound lives again. Released on Wienerworld - 19th November 2007. A wonderful three disc set of all the videos from the classic former Motown stars. Each disc contains thirty three/four songs at around three minutes something, per track. An approximate running time of almost two hours per disc. The selling point is the 100 songs. We have been systematically editing them over the last six months to promote my work on YouTube and MySpace and people have been begging for them on a DVD. This is one of my favourite Motown groups, The Monitors. It seemed only natural to cut "Going To A Go-Go" on the Monitors, because one of their two lead singers, Darryl Littlejohn, was not only Smokey Robinson's nephew, but actually sings just like Smokey. He was originally one half of Keith And Darryl, on Tamla in the late 1970s. The original line up of the Monitors at Motown consisted of Richard Street as lead singer, with Warren Harris, Maurice Fagin, Sandra Fagin, and Hershel Hunter. When we got them reformed for Motorcity, Richard Street was with The Temptations, and Sandra Fagin had passed away, but we succeeded in getting the other three back together. They brought in Smokey Robinson's nephew, Darryl Littlejohn, as lead singer and added a girl singer called Cathy, who was a Detroit policewoman. One of my treasured memories was getting Wanda Rogers of The Marvelettes back to performing live, at the Pontchartrain concert in Detroit, with the Monitors backing her up, all dressed in sharp white tuxedos. Warren Harris, who has now passed away, was the comedian of the Motorcity Project, and had us all in stitches constantly... "Heyyyyyyyyyy - Come into my office" Treasured memories of a wonderful vocal group with the best harmonies ever, as they show on this breathtaking classic. (Less)
The McKoy Sisters - Never Let Go PLEASE READ THIS. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT. Up to today, I have put three hundred and eleven videos (More) PLEASE READ THIS. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT. Up to today, I have put three hundred and eleven videos up here on YouTube, and they have been viewed nearly two million times, according to my account information on my home page. Two million hits is, I feel, a pretty amazing achievement for the music that I love. Well basically, if my hundreds of long long hours putting up free videos for you to watch, have brought you any form of enjoyment or satisfaction at all, then PLEASE PLEASE, I ask you, no I BEG you to do just one thing in return. PLEASE support the "Yesterday And Tomorrow" album, and show me that you care about this music. I have put my heart and soul, and thirty three years of my career into this album, and we're flying blind, doing it ourselves and without a distributor. Unless people take the trouble to go to our website, which at the moment has a direct link to the album on E-Bay, or unless people go onto amazon.co.uk and search for the album, they are simply not going to find it in their local shop. I put a huge amount of loving care into these videos on YouTube, and nearly two million hits prove it's not in vain. Surely you can spend just fifteen pounds of your money and buy it, just to show me I am not wasting my time. PLEASE do this for me, PLEASE. It's painful and heartwrenching to see it sell so little, mainly because it's not easily available. So PLEASE show me your support, and I shall continue to do my bit to bring you this music. I ask you not to ignore this plea - I need to see a sign that people care. I would hate to be so disheartened that I remove all my 311 videos from here. So just this once, all I ask of you is to do your bit, and please buy this one CD.
Noel McKoy's outrageously larger than life sisters recreate the classic Eastbound Expressway track, "Never Let Go", a track that became a huge R&B smash for me in 1979 on AVI Records, and a track which funk DJs have been requesting off me for years. I am so excited to have redone it. Annette, April, Tracey-Ann, and Jeanette, have got together to form a girl group thats full of fun. Annette's vocals are amazingly reminiscent of Gladys Horton, from legendary Motown girl group The Marvelettes. I have been somewhat jokingly saying that The McKoy Sisters aren't exactly either The Spice Girls or The Dream Girls. Consequently, we have tried to reinvent a touch of The Weather Girls with them, and bring that fun element back to Disco. Of course, the comparison is unfair, as they're much more petite than the Weather Girls, but there is still an instant sense of fun in their whole appearance. And their first track, for "Disco 2008", called "Love Payment Overdue" is simply fun and camp. And so right here, right now, for my new album, "Yesterday And Tomorrow", the girls have reinvented this 1979 disco/funk classic originally done by Eastbound Expressway, "Never Let Go", and it's just FABULOUS. My brand new album, "Yesterday And Tomorrow", is probably the most dear to my heart project that I have ever undertaken. I decided after thirty three years since I made my very first record, "Reaching For The Best" by The Exciters, to take a trip back down memory lane and recut thirty of my classics on artists who I am currently working with, reinterpreting them in 2008 without losing the magic that made them special in the first place. It's a totally self indulgent project, but one which already has my fans salivating with delight. I first got the idea when I recut Evelyn Thomas's wonderful classic "Have A Little Faith In Me" with Ebony Alleyne, last year. So I'm doing thirty in total, twenty four for the CD and six more extra ones for the DVD, picking either my biggest hits, my most beloved tracks, or the songs which people most requested to see a video. As I must clearly explain, these are not the original versions. And that's what makes the project exciting and new. These are brand spanking new interpretations of the classics, by Centre City's current roster of artists , built up over a thirty three year career of making records. "Yesterday And Tomorrow" was released on March 3rd on Centre City Records, exclusively through the new website, http://www.ianlevine.co.uk - and Amazon - and I hope you will all consider supporting it.
