Trailer Wiring Installation, 1999 Dodge Neon - etrailer.com
Today we are going to do an install on part number 18002 four pole flat electrical connector the 60 (More) Today we are going to do an install on part number 18002 four pole flat electrical connector the 60 inch long version. We are installing this on a 1999 Dodge Neon. This is pretty simple to install, we do have to hardwire the wires but you do not have to worry about a Modulite or a converter box as it is a standard two wire system. This will be pretty straight forward, test the wires and hook up to the appropriate code and we will be set. On this vehicle all the wiring is inside the trunk so we need to get into the trunk and get behind the carpeting to get behind the taillights. On this vehicle the wiring is actually routed on both sides so what is going to happen is that we are going to make both of our connections, the running light, left turn, and the ground, on this side and then we will run an extension wire to to the other side, the passenger side, to pick up the right turn signal that way. What needs to happen is that we need to take this carpet away from here, off this pin and we will have to take out this plastic valance too. Starting on the drivers side, we are going to take this connector apart and probe the inside to see what color does what function and then we will trace it back through here and do the actual tap in back here. Ok, we will start testing our wires. We will have to ground our tester and there is a factory ground right here we can actually use. We will check it out by testing in here what wire does what. Currently right now we have on the left turn signal and the running lights. The running lights are going to be that wire there, the black or brown with a yellow stripe. That is the left turn signal, the green with the red stripe. Lets go back over here, there is our wire and we will go ahead and make our connection right now. This kit comes with scotch locks which simply slide over one wire then you slide the wire you want to connect to next to it. Shove it up all the way because there is a stop in there then take your pliers and just crimp them together. Give it a tug to make sure you have a good connection and then check the other end, so we know that circuit is good. Then we will go back to our turn signal, that was the green with the red stripe, again lets double check. Yellow is going to be our left turn and we will check at the other end to make sure. We are going to connect our ground wire up and instead of splicing into it we have this handy ground up here from the factory and we will actually connect to that. To do that we are going to install a ring terminal and then we will just connect it up there. The ring terminal does not come with this so you will need to get that separate. With our green wire we will have to run a jumper to the passengers side and then we will make our connection just like we did over here. Before I forget we will go ahead and plug this back onto the taillight. This light green wire is going to be the jumper going over to the passenger side, again this does not come with the kit so you will have to come up with this separately, any scrap wire will work. Since we did not use a scotch lock for our ground wire we have an extra and we can use that to make our connections here an on the other side. Then we will take our jumper wire and tuck and run it to the other side, all the panels will hide it and keep it in place. Again, we will take this connector apart and look for our right turn signal wire, light brown and red. We will make our connection to that with our scotch lock. Now we will go back to the end of our four pole and test to make sure our connection is good. OK, we have our right turn signal set. At this point we will secure our wires and put our trunk back together and then we are set. Now we have our trunk reassembled and the wire working properly and we will show you how you are actually supposed to use it. We did not run it outside because most of the time the wiring is in the trunk and you are not going to be pulling all of the time. Go ahead and leave it in the trunk when you are not using it. When you do need to use it just pull it out and you can see this rubber seal will actually give way and then we will shut our trunk on it and we can just pull out as much as we need. The wire is not getting messed up when we are not using it being left outside getting corroded up or anything and you can actually tuck it behind the liner in your trunk. That finishes our install for part number 18002. Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information. (Less)
Fifth Wheel Hitch Install Chevy Silverado - etrailer.com
Today we are going to be installing the Signature Series Fifth Wheel part number 30061. On a 2007 (More) Today we are going to be installing the Signature Series Fifth Wheel part number 30061. On a 2007 new body style Chevy Silverado pickup 2500. The first thing we need to do is lower the spare tire to gain access to the under body. Next we will need to remove the heat shield or else it will be in the way during our installation. After we remove the heat shield we want to go ahead and put the rear cross member into place. As you can clearly see that we have already put the cross member in. It will be easier if you loosen or remove the bed bolts. There are 4 middle ones that if you take them out or loosen they will allow you extra room when putting the cross member back into position. Then go ahead and install the front and rear channel. You can see we have both cross members into position now. The next step will be to mount the side brackets on the side of the frame. On this 2007 new body style Chevy pickup it has this optional brake controller unit built into the dash board. All of the electronics for that unit are mounted here on the driver side frame rail. They offer an after market bracket which is part number 58318. That is what we are going to have to use to relocate this so we can get the frame bracket up into place without interfering with this. We are back on the outside of the frame rail here. We are going to show you the 6 fasteners that are holding the electronic brake control unit to the side of the frame. You can see there are five 10 mm bolts and one 13 mm here as well. Which all of them need to be removed that will give us access to the brake controller on the frame. You want to make sure to support the unit on the other side before removing the bolts because it will fall. We have removed the brake controller components and attached them to the after market bracket part number 58318. It is going to mount to the frame with the same hardware that the frame brackets are going to use. We are going to install these spacers in between this bracket and the frame well also. Now we are going to start drilling out our holes. We got our hardware installed so we will go back and tighten up the bolts. Next up we are going to show you how to install part number 27-6145 running board attachment. We have our board laying on the brackets and now it is just the simple process of lining up the bolts to meet the holes. Continue doing that all the way down the board. Now we have our board laying there and we can scoot it left or right to as we see fit. At this point we have a board the way we want it. So lets go ahead and install our hardware. The same thing applies for the rest of their brackets on the way down. There you have it for the install of the running board part number 27-6145 the black aluminum board. This install also applies to part number 27-6540 the chrome aluminum running boards. Part number 27-0025 step board assembly with the light kit. That concludes our install of part number 27-1495 our running board installation kit. So it spaces them away from each other. Now we have the mounting plate attached to the electrical brake controller unit on the inside of the frame. The next step is going to be to go ahead and put the frame brackets on. As you can see there is a cut out here that will go right around that section right around the axle. Now when this frame bracket is in position the holes align with the already existing holes. You can see we have the frame bracket in place like I said before the 5/8 x 2 inch bolt fits with most models. However with us having the brake control bracket on the other side we use the longer bolt that they provided with it. Actually bring it out this way a little more and attach the lock washer and nut here. This here is the other extra bolt holding on the brake control bracket which gets fastened with a 7/16 washer and nut. Over here to the forward most hole and again that is going to be mounted from the inside out. We are going to have to fish it through the frame with the use of this bolt leader here. Basically what we are going to do is fish this through the hole like so meet up with the bolt on the other side of the frame. Then wrap the threads with the bolt leader here and then pull it back through. Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information.
