Break My Fall -Re Uploaded- HIGH QUALITY HERE: (More) HIGH QUALITY HERE: http://www.livevideo.com/video/B2C1D83C63BC43B4B495689949EEE3C6/break-my-fall.aspx
This is my entry for xEmptyParadisex's Wolf's Rain AMV contest. Overall, I'm quite proud of it, though I think with more time it could have been even better. Anyways, its a dedication to the complex relationship between Kiba and Tsume which I like to see in the yaoi light, but can easily be interpreted otherwise. Though I wish I had the format for negatives I actually don't , so every negative in this video was done in Photoshop on a screenshot that was added to sync with the video.
Edit: Youtube is the ANITCHRIST! Ugh, I uploaded this three times and the quality still sucks... The timing got thrown off as well...
Artist: Breaking Benjamin
Song: Break My Fall
Okay, so I've been waiting awhile to do this one after I made "Satin in a Coffin" where I "came out" about my love for the "Tsuki" pairing (Tsume/Kiba), but was unable to find a song for it. I considered the Doves: "Pounding" but it was too consistently rhythmic to match the rollercoaster ride of the relationship between the two. Then, after I had pledged myself to this competition, I thought about The Exies: "Splinter" but that one was too long for my tight schedule. So I was up the creek with out a paddle and the deadline was drawing nearer (Thank God our host is a saint and moved it back to the 31st -And NO, that was not ass kissing-). Anyway, I was sketching some picture while listening to mys old school iPod when I came across this tune in my Breaking Benjamin archive and thought, "Hey its emotional, full of anger and fulfillment, and has the loss of a relationship which is strong, yet unfilled with butterflies and flowers." Hence, this monster.
People often ask me about my passion for the Tsuki pairing and my ultimate dislike of the Cheza/Kiba pairing so I think I'll get this out of the way so I don't have to repeat myself:
The Kiba/Cheza relationship has never appealed to me, even before I was a Tsuki slasher, because it was based off of nothing more than physical lust and a prophecy that needed to be fulfilled. It is an unhealthy relationship because it consists entirely of Kiba giving everything and Cheza returning nothing. Plus, it never grows, develops, or changes making it one of the most one dimensional pairings ever made (Cheza is captured and Kiba is torn up to save her. Damsel in distress consistently).
On the other hand, Tsume and Kiba's interaction changes and is based on trust, development through conversation, and questions and morals batted back by both. Tsume is the intellectual cynic who disregards paradise and Kiba is the rash zealot who follows his emotions beyond normal rationality. Tsume brings out the humanity in Kiba ( Tsume calls Kiba on it and eventually Kiba sees that killing with out need is below everyone) and Kiba shows Tsume passion and faith (Tsume rushes to defend Paradise in the face of Zali and the fallen wolves and is the only one who wishes to continue towards it (like wise he is the only one who wants to go back and continue searching for Kiba) when Kiba goes missing after the fall of Darcia's keep). They rely on eachother and turn what were the ashes of rivalry into a strong bound. They better each other.
-Spoiler warning-
If that's not enough reason here is more proof for you: In the final scene Tsume sacrifices himself for Kiba and his vision of Paradise, giving his life so that Kiba can proceed. But when he is defeated, rather than go on Kiba turns back to see what has befallen him. When Tsume reprimands him and yells at him to leave Kiba, unlike when Hige asks him to go and he complies, refuses. Tsume then confesses his reason for his rivalry and intrigue with Kiba and then tells him to go away once again. Kiba tells him to grab onto him (a repeat of the scene in "The Successors" when Tsume hoists a weak and wounded Kiba onto his back so that they can save Hige in time) so that hey might proceed into the mountain together. Tsume once again refuses, being stubborn, a pessimist, and knowing that he will only serve as a hindrance, and Kiba finally accepts that Tsume will not be coming. He leaves and bears a pained expression as he hears Tsume's final howl. Tsume whispers, "Let's meet up again, next time, in Paradise." and slumps over.
-Spoilers done-
Episodes such as "Bad Fellow", "Scars in the Wasteland", "Fallen Wolves", "The Successors", "Don't Make Me Blue", "Consciously", "Heartbeat of the Black City", "Scent of a Trap", 'Where the Soul is", "Gunshot of Remorse", and "Wolf's Rain" also contain situations in which the develop their bond.
Phew. Okay, I'll shut up. Once again this is only my opinion and this video can easily be seen in the other light.
I do not own Wolf's Rain, BONES, Breaking Benjamin, or any other material in this AMV. I will not profit at all from it. (Less)
