Bloodstone - Avi - Devi -Amon Working with a concept for a one night Liquid City art show, I shot hand-held long takes of (More) Working with a concept for a one night Liquid City art show, I shot hand-held long takes of dance-mistress Devora Lillian in her home studio in Silverlake. I was shooting to get center-balanced recordings of continuous for and motion to divide into different loopable streams to work with live. After the art show had come and gone and I felt like I was the person least impressed with what I had done that night, I got an e-mail from Devi asking if I had done anything yet with what we had shot. I was apparently a bit vague in relating that everything was being done for live manipulation and for only one night. Then I felt like . . . damn . . . she never made the show, I wish I had something to show at least for what she put in for me . . . but the way I was shooting and employing the footage was based around the idea of stretching a continuous piece across five hours, what should I do for a short period that is strongly focused. At the time, I was constantly going back and listening to Amon Tobin's cut Bloodstone from his most recent album Foley Room. It somehow just felt like a better expression of my psychological state at the time than I could possible put into words. My whole mind felt like disharmonious menagerie of malcontent ghosts, fragments of past feelings, dangling loose ends of lines that once connected to my emotions of the past, torn up and burnt photographs and images of what I though I loved and who I thought I was. And I didn't have it in me to dive back into the raw footage I had shot and try to think of a way to conform it into something . . . I just didn't know what. But, I had a thought of reflecting something to do with my head space . . . the trash. I still had pieces of raw footage that had not been emptied from the trash, just use those and nothing else and see what I could make with them. There wasn't much that I could think of as useful, in total, about four minutes. Perfect. Now I had a challenge. The music was already begging me to action. All that was left was, interpretation. I was dealing with leftovers, haunted feelings, internal pressure that didn't seem to even exist when I would try to relax and release. Something had to be said that could never be heard, so I made it, with iMovie, a linear editor based on an old off-line editor, with destructive processing and imprecise tools for blending, bleeding, fading, dissolving . . . perfect. At the time, I had no idea why the f I was doing what I was doing. But this is what I did. I uploaded it to YouTube, which made an enormously larger mess out of it that it usually did with my stuff. Any trails or ghosts that I made light use of turned into pixel salad. After having it up for seven or eight months, I was just sick with everything I had on the web and pulled all the plugs. When I went back a month later or so to make sure I didn't leave anything of myself that could be deleted by googling my name, I discovered something I hadn't know - there were hundreds of pages and sites that has embedded the video, including one that was a dedicated, comprehensive library of Amon Tobin videos. At the time, apparently, I was the only person to seriously do a piece of visual work with Bloodstone. And now, everywhere that it used to be seen had a black hole in it and the words 'this video no longer exists' or something, with my name under it. Oy veh. (Less)

HyperCam 2 FAQ:
Is HyperCam safe to download and install?
Yes. HyperCam is 100% virus and spyware free.
Help! I'm trying to install HyperCam but it has problems while extracting! What should I do?
According to HyperIonics, if you have spyware on your computer the spyware can sometimes attach itself to HyperCam and cause it to not function. You should run a virus and spyware scan, remove any threats, download HyperCam again and try again.
What does the compression quality do?
Compression quality basically tells you how the quality of the video will be. The higher your compression quality, the better quality the video. For the most part, try setting the compression quality to 85% or higher. If you experience severe or moderate lag, reduce the compression quality more and try again.
Can you change the hotkeys?
Yes, simply click on the hotkey you wish to change and change the key as desired.
Where can I download HyperCam 2 and do I need to pay anything?
You can download HyperCam 2 here:
http://www.hyperionics.com/hc/
You do not need to purchase HyperCam 2 to use it. As far as I know, the only benefit to purchasing the program is it removes the "Unregistered HyperCam 2" notice on the top left of the screen. There are ways to get the program free, but I shall not discuss them.
Turning Hardware Acceleration down FAQ:
Are you sure it's safe to do this? Why will my screen go black?
Yes, I've done this dozens of times and I sometimes do it just to reduce lag. It is 100% safe. Your screen turns black because Windows is adjusting to the new settings, just as it turns black when you change the screen resolution.
Why do I need to do this?
You don't *need* to do this, I just highly recommend it as it reduces lag greatly. For example, with Hardware Acceleration turned all the way up I can't even record a video at 60% compression quality because of the lag. With it turned off, I can jack the quality up to 90% and record with minimal lag.
