Rocky Mountain Belle by Heather Jackson I did the guitar and all the vocals on this one. The words were written about six years ago by my (More) I did the guitar and all the vocals on this one. The words were written about six years ago by my father, Robert G. Berry, and I put it to music for me and my sisters back when we were "The Berrypickers", a bluegrass band. It's about my great, great Grandmother, Ida Jane Lindsay. Yup, that is my 5 year old daughter in the background, I try to get her to not come in.. but once I saw the video I thought she was so cute, so I kept it.
Rocky Mountain Belle Copyright 2001 Robert G Berry, Heather L Jackson
Your daddy fought the war that divided this great nation
But when the cause was finally lost he returned to his plantation
But life was never quite the same, things had come to such a mess
So he packed up his family and rode the train out west
CHORUS:
Ida Jane, my Ida Jane
Do you dream of the the south
where magnolias fill the lane
now you are high up in the mountains
were cactus blossum in the dell
And you will ever be known as the Rocky Mountain Belle
The weather's hot and dry and you hate the wind to blow
the folks 'round here are not the same as the folks you used to know
The work is hard and dirty and it never seems to end
Do you dream of Carolina, to be a southern belle again?
Now you have a great stone house and children of your own
There's little time for places past, forgotten days of old
Except on quiet evenings with breezes that are cool and sweet and mild
You think back to the happy days, when you were just a child.
Repeat Chorus (Less)
